Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chairwoman of the Committee on Rules and Administration with oversight over federal elections, issued the following statement regarding the Federal Election Commission's (FEC) recommendation that Congress ban political campaigns from providing pre-checked recurring donation boxes to donors:

"As we work to reform our campaign finance system, we must ensure that people who can only contribute small amounts are empowered to make their voices heard -- but that will only happen if Americans trust that campaigns aren't taking advantage of them through tactics like pre-checked recurring donation boxes. FEC Commissioners from both sides of the aisle have taken issue with this strategy, and I share their concern, which is why as Chair of the Rules Committee, I plan to introduce legislation to ban this practice and ensure contributors are fully informed. I look forward to working with my colleagues to pass this bill, strengthen our elections, and ensure democracy remains in the hands of the American people."
